September - Purchased 7 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 10 used eyeglasses for recycling. Completed a KidSight Vision Screening at McGinnis Day Care. Eight Monticello Lions attended 28 September Zone Meeting at Albany. Donated: $1,000 - Monticello Memorial Park, $500 - Lions Clubs International Foundation, $500 - Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation Endowment Fund, $400 - Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation Patron Fund, $250 - Diabetes Foundation, $200 - WHAS Crusade for Children, $200 - Emergency Outreach October - Purchased 2 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 75 pairs of used eyeglasses. Donated $200 to KLEF KidSight. Donated Gong, Gavel and Tail Twister Bank to new Laurel County Lions Club. Distributed Halloween candy at Aspire Center. One Monticello Lion attended Zone Picnic at Corbin, Three attended Charter Meeting of new Laurel Club at London, and six attended Zone meeting at Jamestown. Held Awards Meeting. November - Purchased 4 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 13 pairs for recycling. Donated $1,000.00 to Lake Cumberland Children's Advocacy Center. Held 7 November pancake breakfast at the Aspire Center. Two Monticello Lions visited Somerset Lions Club. December - Purchased one pair of new eyeglasses and collected 40 used pairs. The club had two entries in the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade with eight Lions participating. Members and Guests attending the club's Christmas Dinner donated $180 to the local Disabled American Veterans. January - Purchased 3 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 38 pairs for recycling. Two Monticello Lions attended the Governor's Cabinet Meeting. The Club's Auction Committee is preparing for the 17 April auction. February - Purchased 5 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 90 pairs for recycling. Donated $500 to the LCIF Haiti Earthquake Fund. Placed ad in the Lions District 43 C Convention Program. Lions Matt and Emily Hesse recently went on a mission to Nicaragua with VOSH ( Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity). The VOSH Group completed more than 1600 eye examinations and fitted the needy with recycled Lions' eyeglasses. March - One member attended KLEF Meeting at Elizabethtown and five members attended District 43 C Convention at Cumberland Falls. Purchased 6 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 34 pairs for recycling. Made the following donations: Chile Earthquake Fund - $250.00, Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation - $200.00, Candy Days - $200.00, Trooper Island - $200.00 April - Purchased 11 pairs of new eyeglasses and collected 41 used eyeglasses. Inducted new members Anthony Vaughn, Larry West and Levi Hardwick. Held the Club's 22nd annual auction. Donated $100 to Kentucky Educational Television and $75.00 to the Junior Miss Scholarship Program. Paid Chamber of Commerce dues. |
